The results from the linkage data showed no significant difference between HDP and death from stroke. These results are consistant with Jonsdottir et al (1996) who demonstrated there was no significant difference between the women with HDP and those who remained normotensive and death following a stroke (RR 1.46 95% CI 0.94-2.28). However, the numbers in the individual patient data relating to stroke as a cause of death are very small. Wilson et al (2003) demonstrated that women with preeclampsia were more likely to die from a stroke compared to the women who remained normotensive in pregnancy with an IRR of 3.59 (95% CI 1.04-12.40) but was not significant for the women with gestational hypertension with an IRR of 2.87 (95% CI 0.81-10.20).
